1. Goals

a. Measurable

You must be able to Measure your Goals or they are not really Goals. If I say I want to be loose weight but I do not say how much weight I am going to loose this is not a Goal.

However if I say I want to loose 20 pounds then at least I can weight myself until I have lost the 20 pounds. This is still not a Goal you should put a time frame on it. I can say that I am going to loose 20 pounds but when am I going to loose 20 pounds?

To make it a goal I need to say in the next 6 months I am going to loose 20 pounds. Now I can measure the amount of weight lost and keep track of when I am trying to reach my goal.

b. Reachable

Goals must be reachable. If I say I am going to loose 50 pounds in the next week then this would not be a true goal. Yes it meets the requirements however we all know I am not going to be able to loose 50 pounds in the next week. When I know I will not reach my goal there is not incentive for me to even try. I am accepting failure before I have even begun.

c. Challengeable

Goals must be challengeable. If I say I am going to loose 1 pound in the next 6 months. We all know that is reachable but once again I have no incentive because it does not challenge me. If I am not challenged then I will not be surprised when I achieve my goals.
